The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
