Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.
Authorities stated that one theory under investigation suggests the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has offered no public response.

Accounts state the blast happened in a vehicle lot close to a residential building.
Pattern of Targeted Attacks
Since the beginning of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military personnel have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This new event comes after other serious incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a explosive hidden on a scooter was detonated remotely.
While a Ukrainian source previously connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are rarely publicly admitted as a matter of standard practice.
Hostilities has increasingly seen covert operations moving into the center of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death remains active.
