Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
