Whenever a client enters the therapy room, they usually seem composed and ready to commence their day. However through sessions with this person for an extended period, I recognize what's really happening exists behind an orderly appearance.

The person explains that the previous night, they'd taken themself "just one serving" to decompress post a stressful day. One glass became two, then even more. That's a habit they've grown used to; a private custom that assists them "shut down" separate from the constant worries that consume their mind as the day ultimately slows down.

This experience reflects something that I have been seeing increasingly frequently in my practice. Working as a counsellor, I have noticed a notable development: a rising amount of people who are using drinking to manage their mental health concerns.

Studies shows that approximately 34.9% of adults who drank beverages admitted doing so to reduce stress and a substantial percentage to manage anxiety.

Acknowledging Worldwide Anxiety Factors

We navigate an era of known as contemporary stress triggers. We have never been so constantly reminded of emergencies, disputes and uncertainty. Even when we switch off our devices, the concerns persist of money worries, employment uncertainty, ecological anxiety and the emotional fatigue that accompanies being without control.

For numerous people, a drink toward the conclusion of the day transforms into a quiet retreat. However although drinking may seem to offer immediate relief, it may worsen worry with continued use, interrupting sleep, increasing physical pressure and diminishing emotional resilience.
